Our Location
The Pitcher Inn is located in the heart of Warren village (chartered 1780, pop. 1,237), at the end of the Mad River Valley which is at the foot of Sugarbush Ski and Golf Resort, situated within a geographical area known as central Vermont and adjacent to 350,000 acres of the Green Mountain National Forest.

Natural Diversions
The Green Mountain National Forest represents over 50% of all public lands in Vermont and with over 500 miles of trails stretching over two-thirds the length of Vermont, it offers endless opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get into the great outdoors all year long. From rugged mountain tops to secluded streams (crystal clear waters perfect for swimming), one can discover the ideal place for every activity from birding, berry picking, canoeing, mountain biking, fishing and in the winter; cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The legendary Long Trail runs across the mountain ridge overlooking Warren, with three of Vermont's five 4,000 foot peaks all accessible within a day's hike of the Inn.

The Green Mountain National Forest contains numerous designated 'Wilderness Areas' of which the 21,480-acre Breadloaf Wilderness is the largest and is situated at our doorstep. It is not uncommon to hear daily reports of moose and deer sightings and on occasions even black bear and bobcats.

The Forest has numerous scenic auto tours that start from the Inn, including the Lincoln Gap (closed in winter for rocket sledding), Appalachian Gap, Brandon Gap, Bingo Road, the Robert Frost Memorial Drive, Texas Falls Recreation Area and the White River area. Tailor made driving itineraries can be coordinated by the Inn. Numerous lakes and ponds are within easy reach of Warren and guests have complimentary access to the Inn's canoe (including paddles and roof rack).

The Green Mountains receives ample snow for winter recreation activities with Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski resorts are just minutes away.

Cultural and Historic Diversions
Central Vermont is not only home to Warren and the Mad River Valley, but also to the pristine capital city of Montpelier, which is nestled amidst beautiful lakes and streams running through rolling hills. Over 40 covered bridges (many on the National Register of Historical Places) may be enjoyed along the country roads and pastoral highways of central Vermont. Numerous historical sights are within two hours' drive from the Inn, including the Billings Farm and Museum, Chimney Point State Historic Site, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, Middlebury College Museum of Art, Morgan Horse Farm (UVM), Montshire Museum of Science, New England Maple Museum, President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site, Vermont Institute of Natural Science and Raptor Center, and the Wilson Castle to name a few. Possibly Vermont's most famous museum, the Shelburne Museum and its sister property, Shelburne Farms, are also within a 45 minute drive.

In addition, central Vermont is also home to numerous golf courses (including our own Robert Trent Jones Sr. mountain course at Sugarbush) and five ski resorts within a 55 minute drive of Warren.
