Fall in the Mad River Valley
We’re right at the cusp of our busiest month of the year here at the Pitcher Inn: October sees leaf-peepers from near and far journey here to take in the world-famous autumnal show Vermont puts on.
The fall colors are the blockbuster draw, but there’s plenty of other reason to make a getaway to our luxury Relais & Châteaux hotel here in the Mad River Valley. Here’s an overview of what’s in store for you—bountifully blazing leaves included—this season at the Pitcher Inn!
Fall Colors
The Mad River Valley’s position in central Vermont and the broad range of elevation between river lowlands and Green Mountain summits make for a heck of a leaf-peeping spectacle. Our fall colors typically reach their peak in early to mid-October, though the timetable varies from year to year.
You can closely monitor the progression of changing foliage by signing up for Vermont’s official weekly Fall Foliage Reports here and keeping an eye on the updates at Vermont.com.
From Warren itself to our region’s scenic byways, quiet backroads, and hiking/biking trails, you’ll be perfectly positioned to experience the Mad River Valley’s multicolored canopies with a luxury home base here at the Pitcher Inn.
Foliage Lift Rides at Mad River Glen
An especially awesome way to survey our local fall colors is by taking advantage of the Foliage Lift Rides at the Mad River Glen ski resort. Nothing like gaining a bird’s-eye view of the fired-up forests!
Leaf-Peeping Packages at the Pitcher Inn: On & Off the Ground
Speaking of bird’s-eye views, another one-of-a-kind option is enjoying fall colors from a seat in a glider thanks to Sugarbush Soaring. Our Fall Foliage Soaring package gives you Pitcher Inn accommodations for two plus a scenic glider fight, not to mention a charming spectrum of dining (from afternoon tea and cookies to a gourmet picnic lunch).
That’s not the only seasonal offer we’ve got on tap: You can also enjoy the ultimate foliage-viewing experience via our Leaf Peepers’ Escape, which combines detailed driving and cycling recommendations as well as picnic goodies, a Vermont Flannel Company blanket, and other perks.
Other Fall Pleasures in the Mad River Valley
When you’re not out being bedazzled by Vermont’s fall colors, hit up one of the final few Saturdays at the Market: a fantastic way to sample the rich agricultural bounty this time of year brings. That bounty will also be at your fingertips right here at the Pitcher Inn, given Chef Jacob Ennis is taking full advantage of it in our seasonally informed farm-to-table cuisine. (Read more about Chef Jacob here.)
You can also enjoy a bit of Warren-style nightlife over at Lawson’s Taproom, where live music—including the weekly Monday Night Music Series—is regularly on offer alongside some delicious craft brews. (Whet your appetite with this previous blogpost of ours on Lawson’s Finest Liquids.)
