The Mallard Room
Designed by Jim Sanford of Sanford & Strauss Architects, the Mallard Room is full of decorations that are significant to the experience and tradition of water fowling both on Lake Champlain and Vermont’s inland waters.
The decorative grass woodwork surrounding the room along with the lifelike Canvasback and Merganser Drake decoys (both by Middlebury decoy artist Gary Starr) make you feel as though you are submerged in the marsh. Gary was also the mastermind behind the Canada goose overhead, and the bedpost ducks. Of the well-known decoy carvers in Vermont today, Gary’s simple and graceful interpretations are some of the best.
